Kevin Stebner and Dana Schloss created By Heart or By Hearsay at the Choose Yer Own Fest in Calgary, AB in the summer of 2012. "We were riding around from event to event and the phrase “By Heart or By Hearsay” came up and we knew we had to do something with it. That’s how this film fest was born."
So here’s what we do. We want you and your friends to remake a film —and the stipulation is do it by heart, or by hearsay - that is, use your own fuzzy memories of the movie or if you haven’t seen it, ask around for the shakey memories from those around you. We’ll put together a list of films that any child of the 80s or 90s should have encountered, but that could be hazy. You pick a flick. You aren’t allowed to re-watch it. Then you make a DIY-no-budget-cardboard-special-FX version of the movie.
And then we screen ‘em!
